[Deuda-QdQ] propuesta moción cancelación deuda pakistan

  hola a todas y todos,

parece ser que el Club de París (donde se reúnen los acreedores) no 
están por la labor ni de cancelar la deuda del Pakistán, ni tan sólo de 
declarar una moratoria en los pagos. No obstante la sociedad civil del 
Pakistán sí se está movilizando para ello (ver correo y foto adjuntas).

Por ello, desde acá habíamos pensado en lanzar una nueva moción para que 
nuestros ayuntamientos, parlamentos... le pidan al Gobierno central el 
100% de la cancelación de la deuda del Pakistán, de manera inmediata, 
incondicional y sin contraprestaciones... En adjunto tenéis la propuesta 
en Castellano y Catalán (sentimos no tenerla ni en Galego, Euskero o 
Asturiano...).

Con la deuda de Haití lo conseguimos... ¿por qué no con la del Pakistán?

*Anti-debt rally in Lahore*

LAHORE: Scores of political, social and civil society activists attended 
the Anti-Debt rally, organized in Lahore on Sunday (19 September) under 
the banner of Labor Relief Campaign (LRC)-an alliance of various civil 
society organizations including CADTM-Pakistan.

Over 500 participated in the anti-debt rally, mainly women and youth. 
The rally started from GPO Chowk and terminated at Charring Cross, The 
Mall. The participants were holding banners and placards inscribed with 
slogans against IFIs. The main banner was read as “No to Foreign Debts”. 
Throughout the route participants made full- throat slogans in favor of 
demand to cancel Pakistan’s foreign debt.

At the end of the rally speakers including Farooq Tariq, Abdul Khaliq, 
Aasim Sajjad, Naeem Shakar, Bushra Khaliq and other campaign leaders 
addressed the participants. They said the recent floods had caused a 
loss of $43billion to the country’s economy. They said under the 
prevailing circumstances the government had lost the capacity to 
effectively launch the relief and rehabilitation work in the flood-hit 
areas, making it unfeasible for it to return the loans to International 
Financial Institutions (IFIs).

They said the government had to repay loans amounting to $55 billion to 
IFIs, and the amount would increase to $74 billion with markup within 
next few years. “Pakistan has paid $3.04 billion during fiscal year 
2009-10 which is 33 percent of its entire Gross Domestic Production 
(GDP). The speakers made it clear that the campaign will not end. They 
demanded that government should not accept further loans and say no to 
the repayments of the current debts. They criticized the PPP government 
for lacking guts to stand up and take a radical position. It is pity 
that Pakistan government is busy assuring the IMF that they will not go 
for request of debt cancellation, they added.

Most of the speakers were of the view that Pakistan has a very strong 
case for debt cancellation. People of Pakistan are totally in favor of 
getting rid of IMF and World Bank Loan. People are already suffering 
from the negative impacts of strict conditionalities of these financial 
institutions. Accepting fresh loans from IFIs in the name of flood 
calamity will increase the debt burden, they opined.

There were several trade unions that had mobilized their members to 
attend the rally. They include Rustam Suhrab Cycle and Motor Cycle 
Workers Union CBA, Lahore Gymkhana Workers Association, Railway Wokers 
Union, Itehad Carpet Union, Pakistan Bhatta Mazdoor Union. There were 
many activists of Labour Party Pakistan and Workers Party Pakistan and 
also some from Communist Mazdoor Kissan Party.

Progressive Youth front mobilized over 100 youth from one area 
of Lahore and National Student Federation also mobilized their members. 
Women Workers Help Line (WWHL) and Labour Education Foundation worked 
very hard to mobilize those in their outreach. The activists and leaders 
National Trade Union Federation, Pakistan For Palestine, CATDM Pakistan, 
Pakistan Kissan Rabita Committee, Tehreek Istiqlal, Pakistan Trade 
Unions Defense Campaign, Pakistan Institute of Secular Studies and 
students of Lahore University of Management were among others in the rally.
