de los investigadores por la paz</a> denunciando los pasos
de la UE para poner en marcha el Fondo de Defensa Europea de
13 billones de euros para investigación y desarrollo
militar. ¿puedes volver a alzar tu voz?</font></font></font></p>
<p><font size="-1"><font size="-1">El acceso sin obstáculos de la
industria de la defensa a las instituciones europeas está
dando lugar a una militarización gradual de la Unión Europea.
Esto socava el proyecto de paz que la unión podría y debería
ser.<br>
</font></font></p>
<p><font class="" size="-1">Dentro de dos semanas, el 29 de
noviembre, la Agencia acogerá su conferencia anual titulada: <a
href="https://eda.europa.eu/info-hub/events/annual-conference-2018"><i>'De
los sistemas no tripulados a los autónomos</i><i>:
tendencias, retos y oportunidades'</i></a>. El acto es el
encuentro anual de los dirigentes de la UE y los representantes
de la industria de defensa.<br>
</font></p>
<p><font class="" size="-1">Para nosotros la conferencia es la
ocasión para oponernos a esta relación tan cercana de las
instituciones europeas y la industria de defensa. Estamos
preocupados en particular por la gran cantidad de fondos
públicos que la UE esta planeando gastar en investigación
militar durante los próximos años y el posible desarrollo de las
armas autónomas con estos fondos. Este es el motivo por el cual
protestaremos en esta conferencia.</font></p>
<p><font class="" size="-1">Pero nuestra voz sola no suena lo
suficientemente alto. <br>
</font></p>
<p><font class="" size="-1">Como miembro de la comunidad académica
europea la financiación de la investigación militar te afecta
particularmente. <b>¿Nos ayudarás a denunciar el giro
militarista que la UE está tomando firmando la carta abierta
adjuntada en este correo electrónico? </b></font><font
class="" size="-1"><font class="" size="-1">Los próximos meses
serán cruciales puesto que el Parlamento Europeo y los estados
miembros decidirán la forma del Fondo de Defensa Europea.</font><br>
</font></p>
<p><font class="" size="-1">Nuestra intención es publicar la carta
antes de la conferencia en dos periódicos, unos británico y otro
belga.</font></p>
<p><font class="" size="-1">Por favor, haznos saber si firmarás la

<p><font size="-1"><font size="-1"><font size="-1">You are one
of the signatories of the <a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="https://researchersforpeace.eu/">Researchers for
Peace pledge</a> denouncing the EU steps to start the
13 billion euro European Defence Fund for military
research and development.</font> Can you raise your
voice again?<br>
</font></font></p>
<p><font size="-1">T</font><font class="" size="-1">he
unobstructed access of the defence industry in the European
institutions is resulting in a gradual militarization of the
European Union. This undermines the peace project the Union
could and should be.<br>
</font></p>
<p><font class="" size="-1">In two weeks time, on November 29th,
the European Defence Agency will host its annual conference
titeled: <a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="https://eda.europa.eu/info-hub/events/annual-conference-2018"><i>'From
unmanned to autonomous </i><i>systems: trends,
challenges and opportunities'</i></a>. The event is the
annual get-together of the EU establishment and the
representatives of the defence industry.<br>
</font></p>
<p><font class="" size="-1">For us the conference is an occasion
to oppose this close relationship of European institutions
and the defence industry. </font><font class="" size="-1">We
are concerned in particular about the massive amount of
public funds the EU is planning to spend on military
research the coming years and</font><font class="" size="-1"><font
class="" size="-1"> the possible development of autonomous
weapons with these funds. </font>This is why we will
protest at the conference.</font></p>
<p><font class="" size="-1">But our voice alone doesn't sound
loud enough. <br>
</font></p>
<p><font class="" size="-1">As a member of the European academic
community the European funding of military research affects
you particularly. <b>Will you help us denounce the military
turn the EU is taking by signing the open letter attached
to this e-mail? </b></font><font class="" size="-1"><font
class="" size="-1">The coming months will be crucial as
the European Parliament and Member States are deciding on
the shape of the European Defence Fund.</font></font></p>
<p><font class="" size="-1">We plan to publish the letter before
the conference in a British and a Belgian newspaper.</font></p>
