(Haiyan) we have developed a petition with Freedom from Debt Coalition and
Jubilee South (Asia Pacific Movement on Debt and Development) calling for the
Philippines debt to be cancelled. The text of the petition is below. It is
addressed to international lenders generally, so covers the World Bank and Asian
Development Bank, as well as governments (and even private lenders, though
harder to get to them). Philippines government external debt payments are $8
billion every year, more than 20% of government revenue.</font></div>

<div><font size="2" face="Arial">It would be fantastic if others want to use the
petition on your own websites. If you are not able to do that, you could also
publicise the page we have put it on. This includes a tick box for where will
will share the email addresses of people who want with the debt justice campaign

claimed from the Philippines. The Philippines urgently needs resources to pay
for relief and reconstruction in the face of the massive destruction,
displacement and loss of lives from Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) - the strongest
typhoon to have made landfall in recorded history. The countries of the global
North owe a far greater climate debt to the Philippines because of their
accumulated excessive greenhouse gas emissions which are causing climate change.

organizations in opposing loans from international financial institutions for
relief and reconstruction. This will only lead to exacerbating the debt burden
of the Philippines.</font></div>

Philippines debts - including their origins, how they were spent, and the impact
of the projects and policies financed by these debts -- that will lead to ending
