Per a optimitzar la generació de coneixement útil per a les empreses, aquestes estan fent servir la seva capacitat per a influir en els governs a fi i efecte de forçar canvis legislatius que derivin en una reestructuració total de les universitats així com en la política de finançament de les mateixes. La situació de manca de recursos econòmics que algunes pateixen, està generant les condicions idònies per a finançar a grups de recerca que enfoquin el seus projectes a qüestions estratègiques per a les pròpies empreses i no per a l’interès general de la població.</font></td>

Aquesta tragèdia, com altres anteriors, és conseqüència d´un sistema de producció fonamentat en l´explotació i la violència. La Responsabilitat Social Empresarial de les grans empreses (El Corte Inglés, Benetton, Mango, Wal-Mart, Carrefour o C&A) no evita aquestes tragèdies ni altres tipus d´explotació laboral, però sí que permet obtenir les xifres de beneficis que anualment apareixen en els seus comptes de resultats.<br>

L´any 2005, la UE va posar en marxa la seva "política fonamental" per reduir les emissions - el Sistema de Transaccions d´Emissions de la Unió Europea (EU ETS). No obstant això, des de l´adopció del ETS de la UE, les emissions han augmentat, hi ha un increment de la dependència del carbó, el preu de l´energia per als consumidors ha augmentat juntament amb els guanys de molts actors industrials (com a resultat directe de l´ETS) i milions d´euros de diners públics han deixat de ser recaptats per pràctiques de frau fiscal. Aquest informe mostrarà que lluny de ser el "millor instrument" per lluitar contra el canvi climàtic, l´ETS és intrínsecament massa dèbil per impulsar la transformació cap al model energètic sostenible que la UE necessita per tal de mantenir-se dins dels límits de l´escalfament global. És sistemàticament deficient i no es pot arreglar.

El principal objectiu de l´observatori serà donar compte de l´estat dels litigis internacionals sobre inversions entre nacions i multinacionals. Així mateix, es va resoldre que l´observatori "proposi mecanismes per a la reforma de les instàncies arbitrals" en què es dirimeixen aquests casos.

Per la Conferència Internacional ens acompanyaran representants de les organitzacions internacionals que han estat treballant històricament amb el deute al Sud, així com un membre de la Plataforma Auditoria Ciutadana del Deute (PACD). El día 1 de juny tindrem la segona part de la Conferència a Sant Cugat del Vallés, on debatrem què podem aprendre de les diferents crisis del deute que s'han succeït arreu del món en els darrers 30 anys.
