It is hard to believe that we are close to the end of our <strong>fourth week in Freedom Plaza</strong>. We have a core community here and new people that join each day. Dr. Bruce Levine recently wrote about the importance of <a href="http://october2011.us2.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=33602bebba8fb7dd6e71fb413&id=f9a814dadb&e=7ae3cd5ef5" style="color: #54136F;font-weight: normal;text-decoration: underline;">working for social change as an antidote to depression</a>. We agree!<br>
<br>
We have a full kitchen up and running where three meals a day are served. <strong>We appreciate food donations</strong> coming from the local community and restaurants! We thank the Communications Workers Association for providing us with showers, and Daniel who built a large white board and covered structure for holding teach-ins and general assemblies.<br>
<br>
When we experienced unusual weather last Saturday – rain, sleet and snow – we really appreciate those of you who stopped by with blankets, warm clothing, warm food and tarps. That made a huge difference! <strong>The local DC community is wonderful!</strong><br>
<br>
Here is an article that summarizes the <a href="http://october2011.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=33602bebba8fb7dd6e71fb413&id=a7db395a5e&e=7ae3cd5ef5" style="color: #54136F;font-weight: normal;text-decoration: underline;">first three weeks</a>. And we’d like to tell you about <strong>what is coming up this week:</strong><br>

<strong>Tonight</strong> at 5 pm, members of the <strong>School of the Americas Watch</strong> will provide a teach-in.<br>
<br>
<strong>Wednesday</strong> is a day of <a href="http://october2011.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=33602bebba8fb7dd6e71fb413&id=d03dbc69fb&e=7ae3cd5ef5" style="color: #54136F;font-weight: normal;text-decoration: underline;">General Strike</a> in solidarity with OccupyOakland – a great time to join us in Freedom Plaza for a <strong>rally with CWA at 5 pm</strong> and the regular evening General Assembly at 6 pm. So far the Metropolitan and Park police have been open and respectful with us. A trend that we hope continues because they are also part of the 99%. We hear that pressure is coming from above and so there may be a time when the local police are ordered to clear Freedom Plaza. We will try to let you know if this is coming and <strong>ask that you join us to hold this important space</strong>. Retired police and military <a href="http://october2011.us2.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=33602bebba8fb7dd6e71fb413&id=d67c29a17b&e=7ae3cd5ef5" style="color: #54136F;font-weight: normal;text-decoration: underline;">recently vowed</a> to protect peaceful protesters.<br>

<strong>Thursday</strong> will be an <strong>international day of action in support of a financial transactions tax</strong>. We will <strong>march from Freedom Plaza with National Nurses United</strong> at 11 am. At 5 pm, <strong>Ralph Nader</strong> will join us to speak about the impact of the occupy movement on political dialog. Kevin Zeese writes about this in <a href="http://october2011.us2.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=33602bebba8fb7dd6e71fb413&id=a3eb6f42b8&e=7ae3cd5ef5" style="color: #54136F;font-weight: normal;text-decoration: underline;">A Warning to the Economic and Political Elites.</a><br>

<strong>Friday</strong> morning at 9:00 am, David Ewoldt from <a href="http://october2011.us2.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=33602bebba8fb7dd6e71fb413&id=70781529e0&e=7ae3cd5ef5" style="color: #54136F;font-weight: normal;text-decoration: underline;">Coalitions of Mutual Endeavour</a> will provide a <a href="http://october2011.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=33602bebba8fb7dd6e71fb413&id=559f99d432&e=7ae3cd5ef5" style="color: #54136F;font-weight: normal;text-decoration: underline;">teach-in</a> on <strong>building a sustainable movement</strong>.<br>

<strong>Saturday</strong> is an <strong>international day of action to move our money</strong> out of the big banks and into community banks and credit unions.
