border=0>OMMENTANT l'appel à une Europe de la vigilance, l'article
intitulé " La confusion des idées " évoquait quelques-uns des
facteurs disparates qui se conjuguent dans la vie intellectuelle
française. D'abord, le brouillage des pistes organisé par Alain de
Benoist au moyen de sa revue Krisis. D'autre part, les conséquences
ambiguës des critiques consacrées à l'antiracisme dans les travaux
de P.-A. Taguieff, qui s'accentuent chez Paul Yonnet. Enfin, en
toile de fond, les désillusions, le cynisme et les bouleversements
internationaux hérités des années 80. Le rappel de quelques points
pourra dissiper d'éventuels malentendus.
<P></P>
<P>Alain de Benoist fait état des " inflexions " de sa pensée. Ce
n'est pas de cela qu'il est question, mais de la permanence de ses
liens avec le Front national et les réseaux internationaux de
nostalgiques du nazisme.</P>
<P>Quelques faits. Derrière la vitrine Krisis, il y a deux autres
revues animées depuis longtemps par Alain de Benoist. Les comités de
patronage et de rédaction de Nouvelle Ecole, par exemple,
comprennent des membres du " conseil scientifique " du Front
national (Jean Haudry, Jean Varenne, Pierre Vial) et des négateurs
des chambres à gaz (Jean-Claude Rivière, Bernard Notin, qui est
également membre du Front national). D'autre part, présentant en
1991 un recueil de poèmes de Maurice Rollet, fondateur du GRECE,
Alain de Benoist célèbre la tour de Jul. Cet objet qu'il admire
depuis longtemps (" antique Jul-Joel (...), fête surgie du fond des
âges, spontanée, presque instinctive ") Eléments, janvier 1977)
était en vente lors du colloque du GRECE de 1992. Or il s'agit d'une
pièce centrale des rituels SS, comme l'a montré René Monzat (le
Monde du 3 juillet).</P>
<P>Dans une nécrologie consacrée à Herbert Jankuhn, publiée dans
Nouvelle Ecole à l'automne 1990, Alain de Benoist rappelle que cet
homme, qui a été " fait prisonnier en 1945 et ne sera libéré qu'en
1948 " est l'un des " patrons " de cette revue. Il omet seulement de
préciser que c'est bien ce Sturmbannführer SS qui a donné son nom au
Sonderkommando Jankuhn chargé par Himmler de raids archéologiques
dans l'Europe occupée.</P>
<P>A Tübingen, en Allemagne, la maison d'édition Grabert est connue
pour ses publications néonazies et négationnistes, tel le Mythe
d'Auschwitz de Wilhelm Staglich. Condamnée par les tribunaux
allemands pour incitation à la haine raciale, cette maison fondée
par Wigbert Grabert, ancien collaborateur de Rosenberg, ministre du
III Reich chargé des territoires de l'Est, a publié cinq livres
d'Alain de Benoist, de 1982 à 1986. En 1990, cet auteur dirige chez
Grabert un ouvrage sur la Grande Allemagne avec Wolfgang Strauss,
figure de l'extrême droite. En 1992, Grabert annonce une biographie
du peintre allemand Wilhelm Petersen _ que Himmler avait sollicité
pour un monument en l'honneur de Heydrich _ par Alain de Benoist.
Cet ouvrage est finalement annoncé pour 1993 sous la signature d'Uwe
Christiansen, dans une collection dirigée par Alain de Benoist. Les
faits sont fastidieux, mais ils sont têtus.</P>
<P>Certaines des personnalités qui ont collaboré à la revue Krisis
ignoraient évidemment ces détails. Il serait inconvenant de leur en
faire grief, et absurde de les imaginer complaisantes. Tout le monde
peut être trompé. C'est une autre affaire de le reconnaître, comme
l'a fait Jean-Pierre Vernant, en signant l'appel à la vigilance.</P>
<P>Doit-on dialoguer avec ceux qui rêvent au retour de la barbarie ?
P.-A. Taguieff a choisi le dialogue, en le voulant sans
complaisance, ce que Pierre Vidal-Naquet juge être " un jeu
dangereux ". Théoricien connu, P.-A. Taguieff a publié de multiples
travaux sur le racisme et l'antiracisme, dont le Monde a largement
rendu compte. Que ces ouvrages exigent d'être lus et discutés avec
rigueur, c'est l'évidence. Les quelques lignes de l'article du 13
juillet ne prétendaient nullement dresser un bilan de sa recherche,
mais indiquer l'ambiguïté de certains de ses propos.</P>
<P>Le racisme a-t-il vraiment changé ?</P>
<P>D'abord ceux qui concernent la Nouvelle Droite. Il a été l'un des
premiers à construire une analyse de " la stratégie de la Nouvelle
Droite en France ", dans un texte où il démonte les mécanismes de l'
" entrisme ", du " noyautage ", des " effets de séduction "
pratiqués par ce courant, et leurs implications politiques (in Vous
avez dit fascismes ? Montalba, 1984). L'année suivante, il écrit
dans la revue Eléments animée par Alain de Benoist pour contribuer à
un " dialogue sans complaisance ni concession de surface " un
article que la rédaction présente sous le titre " Le dialogue est
aujourd'hui possible ".</P>
<P>Dans ce texte, P.-A. Taguieff écrivait : " La Nouvelle Droite a
fortement contribué à disqualifier l'égalitarisme vulgaire. Pièce
maîtresse de l'idéologie dominante, l'utopie terroriste du
nivellement est désormais absente de l'horizon commun (verbiage
communiste non compris) ". Cette phrase vient-elle " porter la
contradiction chez l'adversaire, dans sa citadelle ", ou bien
contribue-t-elle à le légitimer ? </P>
<P>Qu'un ouvrage où le nom de P.-A. Taguieff figure en couverture
avec celui d'Alain de Benoist ait été publié à Florence l'an dernier
sans son autorisation confirme que les réseaux de la Nouvelle Droite
se livrent à des trucages de ce genre d'un pays à l'autre de
l'Europe. Il est plus malaisé de comprendre pourquoi, même sans se
transformer en plaideur à plein temps, il a jugé inutile de
protester publiquement.</P>
<P>Quant aux analyses du racisme et de l'antiracisme, le principal
apport de P.-A. Taguieff est d'avoir montré que les problèmes sont
plus compliqués qu'on ne pense, surtout depuis qu'un " néoracisme "
se référant aux notions d'identité culturelle et de droit à la
différence s'est constitué à côté des anciennes idéologies
biologisantes. Le désaccord porte ici sur la profondeur de ce
changement et le risque de sous-estimer la permanence du racisme
biologisant. Il porte également sur le caractère constructif de la
critique de l'antiracisme sur laquelle P.-A. Taguieff a fréquemment
mis l'accent, et qu'on peut juger paralysante. Ces divergences mises
à part, on retrouve le débat classique concernant la nécessaire
liberté des chercheurs en sciences sociales à l'égard de tout
préjugé, et les répercussions inévitables de leurs analyses. La mise
à distance, la critique minutieuse et sans contrainte sont requises
par leur travail, même et surtout s'ils étudient des domaines où les
affrontements sont vifs. Mais les mots n'appartiennent pas au ciel
des idées. Qu'on le veuille ou non, ils ont des conséquences sur les
faits.</P><B>
