Entre otros se debaten el retorno energético, la productividad por hectárea y la tierra requerida, su balance de emisiones, la competencia con la producción de alimentos, y la compatibilidad con la conservación de la biodiversidad. Por el hecho de ser presentados como a una solución a múltiples problemas: el pico del petróleo, desarrollo rural, cambio climático, contaminación urbana, etc., la polémica marca el interrogante sobre las consecuencias y sobre si existe un modo y una escala viables para ser producidos de manera sostenible i equitativa sin convertir-se en vez de en parte de las soluciones, en parte de los problemas. En este artículo queremos destacar las contradicciones (e incompatibilidades) de esta retórica y nos centramos concretamente en la política de biodiesel de la India y las de la Jatropha curcas, la especie más ampliamente promovida en este país. </font></td>

Son muchas las cuestiones a tratar en este artículo sobre el concepto de soberanía energética: cuál es su significado, cuáles son sus implicaciones y, básicamente, qué es lo que se entiende por soberanía energética. </font></td>

Pero estas últimas semanas hemos tenido alguna oportunidad de leer o escuchar un par. La decisión de Rafael Correa, presidente de Ecuador, de “suspender” el pago de una parte de la deuda externa por considerarlo ilegítimo, tras haber realizado una auditoría integral de la deuda durante más de un año, ha ocupado escasas páginas de la sección de economía de los principales diarios españoles y aún menos minutos a las televisiones y radios. Quienes recogieron la noticia lo hicieron generalmente con alarma, tildando la decisión del presidente ecuatoriano de arriesgada o incluso irresponsable...

Con la participación de tres de los asistentes a la reunión de Madrid: Mª Gabriela Serra (Entrepobles), Henk Hobbelink (GRAIN) y Gustavo Duch (Campaña “No te Comas el Mundo”).<br><br>
Especialmente a raíz de la crisis alimentaria, desde hace un tiempo, algo se está moviendo en la gobernanza internacional que trata directamente sobre la agricultura y la alimentación. Diversos organismos e instituciones están intentado agrandar sus parcelas de poder y existen claras tensiones: la Organización de las Naciones Unidas para la Alimentación y la Agricultura (FAO), el Grupo Consultivo para la Investigación Agrícola Internacional (CGIAR), el Fondo internacional para el Desarrollo Agrícola (FIDA), el Programa Mundial de Alimentos (PMA) por un lado y la “resurrección” de otros actores que aprovechando el maremágnum y la incertidumbre actual se han abierto paso a codazos hasta colarse en la primara fila: el BM, FMI o la OMC. Una maraña de siglas y organismos en unos momentos donde la gobernanza mundial sobre estos temas es, valga la redundancia, ciertamente incierta. A este espectáculo asisten los movimientos sociales que luchan por la soberanía alimentaria, que ven en estos movimientos una nueva amenaza que aumentaría su exclusión actual de los espacios de decisión internacional. El último capítulo de este juego de ajedrez desigual fue el 25-26 de enero en Madrid, en la Reunión de Alto Nivel para la Seguridad Alimentaria. Por todo ello nos parece importante debatir, reflexionar e intercambiar información sobre estos temas y os invitamos a participar en la mesa redonda.
